A Life Ordained by Faith
Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti was born on 5 May in 1923 in Ngaone, Chipinge, in the Manicaland Province of Zimbabwe. Filled with fear after his mother heard a preacher speak of hell, the young boy began to seek the creator. One day he met a simple man who explained the way of salvation, and he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptised in the Holy Spirit.
Ten years after his conversion, Ezekiel felt the call of God to preach the Good News. The Lord subsequently revealed Himself to him in many ways. Between 1948 and 1949, he traveled to Salisbury (now Harare) where he was baptised and began to speak in tongues. He started his ministry with just a few people, a group that would eventually grow into a global movement.
Building a Global Ministry
For 15 years, he was the Pastor at Highfield Revival Centre, where many miracles happened, drawing people from afar. This humble beginning grew into Forward in Faith Ministries International (FIFMI), also known as ZAOGA. Today, fifty years after its inception, it is one of the fastest-growing Pentecostal churches in Southern Africa, having touched over 100 nations and states worldwide with over 5,000 pastors.
The church has become a vast empire with diverse investments, including 120 dressmaking schools, Bible schools, colleges, hospitals, clinics, and schools. A crowning achievement was the granting of a license in 2010 to establish the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) in Bindura.
A Legacy of Impact
Dr. Guti held numerous academic credentials, including a BA, MA, DD, D.Min, and a Ph.D. in Religion. He was also a prolific author of over 80 books, with life-changing titles such as “Maturity Which Comes by Knowing the Ways of God” and “Laws and Responsibilities of a Leader.”
Dr. Guti founded numerous philanthropic arms, including the Forward in Faith Orphanage Center, Mbuya Dorcas Health Centre, and various fellowship groups. As a great intercessor and a man of compassion, he traveled the world preaching and teaching in Bible schools, universities, and on television and radio programs.
