An Interview with Bishop Tudor Bismark: Vision, Succession, and a Passion for Africa
Bishop Tudor Bismark, an apostolic voice to the nations, sits down to share his personal journey, the founding vision of Jabula New Life Ministries, and his unwavering passion for the empowerment and transformation of the African continent.
The Vision of Jabula
"When we began, our whole idea and philosophy were basically ‘Empowerment’ – in almost every sector of human life," Bishop Bismark explains. The goal was to create a sustainable living for pastors, advance their education, and ensure their families thrived. For the congregation, the aim was total spiritual enrichment, which led to the ministry's motto: "Transforming People …Transforming Nations."
Bishop Bismark and Pastor Chichi developed New Life Covenant Church in Harare as a model, asking, "Are these ideas exportable? Will they work anywhere in the world?" They found that the core principles of empowerment, leadership, and quality were a universal culture. Today, they are seeing this vision played out in Jabula churches across 27 countries, all sharing the same traits of order, anointing, and excellence.
On Succession Planning
Having planned for succession for over 15 years, Bishop Bismark outlines three critical components:
- The Method: Establishing the theological, cultural, and financial principles for the transition.
- The Man (or Woman): Identifying, developing, and grooming the right individual with the necessary qualifications and character.
- The Mission: Ensuring the successor not only continues the mission but elevates it to the next level.
He notes that Bishop Hugh D. Smith Jr. was appointed as his successor for Jabula International in 2017, while the process for the local church in Harare is ongoing pending the completion of the Kingdom Cathedral construction project.
A Passion for Africa
"Our deepest passion that is driving us now is to see every country in Africa become a first-world nation," Bishop Bismark declares. This vision includes the protection of human and property rights, freedom of expression, thriving economies with a strong middle class, and orderly, respected electoral processes.
A key focus is the meticulous empowerment of women in every sector—economically, politically, and spiritually. The ministry aims to tackle major challenges such as human trafficking and the abuse of women, while advocating for greater opportunities in business and trade. "I don’t believe a nation can be significant and powerful without women being engaged at that level," he states.
Bishop Bismark highlights the urgent need to improve access to education and healthcare across the continent. He emphasizes that Africans are still dying from preventable causes rooted in poverty and that access to energy and the internet is crucial to accelerating the educational process. His personal peeve is tackling the corruption that diverts funds which could be used to build a better Africa.
