God has been faithful to give me a mother in Pastor Chichi Bismark. One of the most notable things about my mum is her incredible ability to pull the best out of people. I was no exception. When I met her, I was at the bottom of my life, confused and desperate, but her mentorship and belief in me changed everything.
From the Depths of Confusion to Renewed Confidence
When I met her, I had just become one of the youngest widows imaginable. I had a grand wedding but never got the chance to stay with my husband, who passed away 12 days later from a long-undiscovered heart condition. I was confused, desperate, and lost. I couldn't fit into the widow's world, the single mother's world, or the young girls' world. I was an outcast in my own mind.
With full knowledge of my background, Pastor Chichi never treated me as a widow. She pulled me back into the "girls' world" and made sure I never had a chance to develop self-pity. She kept my mind busy with Kingdom tasks and, to my surprise, began calling me to sing in major meetings—something no one had ever believed I could do. She helped me rediscover myself, commenting on my hair and my clothes, instilling in me a desire for excellence. Before I knew it, I was doing it not just to make her happy, but for myself.
5 Powerful Lessons on Prayer
Among the many things I learned from Mum, the consistency and fervency of her prayer life had the greatest impact. My understanding of spiritual warfare and intercession took on a new dimension. Here are just a few of her most impactful teachings:
- Your Whole Self Must Be Involved: Pray and sing in the Spirit and with your understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15). The sum total of your being—spirit, soul, and body—must be engaged.
- Battles Are Won at the Gates: To destroy any stronghold, you must uproot its foundations. Taking over kingdoms requires first taking over the gates (Genesis 22:17).
- Know Your Enemy: Before engaging in spiritual warfare, locate your enemy, understand their source of strength, and identify the altars or covenants that empower them.
- Pray from a Position of Power: Your strength does not come from this world. You are empowered by an omnipotent God. Enter prayer with confidence to take territory.
- Understand the Gates: Recognize the different gates—physical, earthly, and societal—that you must deal with in prayer to bring about change.
