This Is Why I Named My Son Oudney (Jnr.) Awana Patsika

AM VERY SORRY ABOUT THE BASIC THEOLOGY - This is by no means a theological treatise - nor am I a theologian..!

Life is about legacy and we have to make a commitment to live our life on earth with a deliberate effort to leave residues of our existence.

Legacy is what we leave behind in the form of inheritance and heritage. The greatest area where we leave our legacy is in our families, through leaving a strong financial pocket and a powerful legacy of spirituality..!

So Legacy Is:
1. Family - Love and honour your parents. Love and be committed to your spouse. Lo avenue ve and train your children … A family is the linchpin of legacy. A family is an avenue through which your name will be carried to the next generation. Be a multi-generational thinker.

2. Wealth and Money - You have you work hard and emerge in your niche area of gifting until you are paid for your gift. Be deliberate in how you work and know that fathers leave wealth that transcends into the fourth generation.

3. Spirituality - Do not smoke, do not drink, do not be a womaniser…! Even if you are very good at hiding your sins … do away with sin and leave a legacy of spirituality to your children.

As a parent, you have to connect with your children's faith journey and walk alongside them. You have to provide your children with VERY practical ways to inspire them to build a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ. Make each moment that you have with them count.

Be deliberate about the family legacy, wealth legacy and spiritual legacy that you leave..!
This Is Why I Named My Son Oudney (Jnr.) Awana Patsika
SO WHY THE NAME AWANA - So AWANA is not a Shona name. The name is an abbreviation derived from this scripture.

Study to shew thyself APPROVED unto God, a WORKMAN that needeth NOT to be ASHAMED, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. (2 Timothy 2:15)

It means Approve Workmen Are Not Ashamed. Do you see the not so hidden acronym in the title? This is the verse used to create the word AWANA. But long before it was an AWANA verse, this was the key verse for dispensational theology.

How many have ever owned a Scofield Reference Bible?

Right now the ESV Study Bible is quite popular and twenty years ago it was the NIV Study Bible but for most of the 20th century, the Scofield reference Bible reigned supreme among evangelicals.

It was known for a brand of theology called Dispensationalism which used the King James version of 2 Timothy 2:15. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Scofiend wrote a small book called Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth where he literally divides the Bible into seven parts called "dispensations." The Word of truth, then, has right divisions, and it must be evident that, as one cannot be "a workman that needeth not to be ashamed." This might not necessarily be the 100% meaning of 2 Timothy 2:15.

In essence. there are two main points for this verse and for the section of 2 Timothy 2:

1. Right Beliefs - Rightly handling the word of truth.
2. Right Behavior - A worker who has no need to be ashamed.

Without getting into too much theology - Simply put - Every believer needs to know the dispensation in which they are in and how their gift is designed to fit in perfectly..!

We need to have the right beliefs and the behave accordingly our time.
- Know your dispensation,
- Know your time,
- Be a good steward of your gift in your time,
- Have the correct attitude and behaviours.

The bible of David says in Acts 13:36 … For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption..!

The bible of Ester says in Esther 4:14 ... For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"

So my Son AWANA reminds me that:
1. I must be a man of STUDY.
2. I must work hard and keep my gift sharpened and APPROVED unto God.
3. I must not be ASHAMED of the Gospel.
4. I must know the word and correctly DIVIDE it … and
5. I must also know the dispensation of my gift and be relevant in my time.

SO WHAT LEGACY DO YOU COMMIT TO LEAVING ON EARTH IN YOUR GENERATION..!
