Is Google From The Devil? Reclaiming the Narrative for a Telegraphic Generation!
Written By: Coach Tarie | Editorial: COTACC × SoLSE
Who is speaking to this generation more? Who is being heard? Whose opinion matters to the younger generation of today? Has the church lost the NARRATIVES of today?
“We are living in the post-information age, the communication age, speaking to a telegraphic generation. The only way to speak to it is to overtake it and take hold of the narrative of the day and use it to take people back to the knowledge that God gave through His Messiah—THE TRUTH.”
THE TELEGRAPHIC GENERATION
What is a TELEGRAPHIC generation? It is a generation that wants all the information on a screen, be it a phone, iPad, tablet, laptop, TV, or Big Screen. The narrative is the space that determines how people view life.
Decoding the Digital Spiritual Warfare
History has to repeat itself if there is going to be hope for this generation. We must look at how the Church historically engaged with media.
The Printing Press (15th Century)
Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press and the first book published was the Bible. He made the Bible the narrative of the day and set the world for the Reformation.
The Pulpit Era (18th Century)
In the time of Jonathan Edwards, the pulpit became the narrative. People would come from all over to hear the preaching of the Word. Life and meaning were drawn from the pulpit.
The Rise of Screens
With the introduction of motion pictures, the pulpit lost its influence. Everyone went to watch films. Since then, the Church has never taken hold of the narrative of the day; it has been following from miles behind.
We are in the generation of the Internet and Google. Google has taken the narrative. If anyone wants to know anything, they don't go to the Bible or ask the Pastor; they ‘Google’ it.
Uploading the Kingdom
Google brings out information that has been uploaded, but how much of the Life Changing Truth of the Kingdom has been uploaded? It is from this understanding that I decided to take up blogging.
Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone
After being inspired by seeing Oudney N. Patsika doing it and reading an article by Professor Arthur Mutambara, I have stepped out of the comfort zone. We have to speak to our generation and be relevant.
In 2006, The Lord Jesus Himself came into my room and gave me a prophetic vision regarding the direction of the Church.
The Vision of the Bus
"Ndakusimudza Church yangu sebhazi renge richifamba munzira rotanga kufamba pamusoro pezvikomo." (I am taking my Church, like a bus that has been traveling on roads, to begin to move on top of mountains). For the Kingdom to advance, the Church must occupy the spaces that influence behavior and culture.
The 7 Mountains of Influence
The Kingdom must be established on the top of all mountains which influence culture: POLITICS, MEDIA, RELIGION, ARTS, BUSINESS, EDUCATION, FAMILY (as confirmed by global voices and leaders like Apostle Alexander Chisango).
Isaiah 2:2-3
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains... and all nations shall flow unto it.”
In war dynamics, it is crucial to occupy the media, publishing, and broadcasting services to gain ground in the minds of the people.
Interpret the News
Not only should we be posting sermons and teachings, but we must interpret the News and Events, giving the Kingdom perspective. The Truth has to penetrate the interpretation of events.
Victory means Occupation
Napoleon Bonaparte said, "The objective of war is victory, the objective of victory is OCCUPATION." Our Lord got us the victory and left us an instruction saying, "Occupy till I come" (Luke 19:13).
