Father rapes daughter because he could not afford a prostitute

A father who repeatedly raped his daughter from an early age has been sent to prison many years after the assault happened. A 68-year-old Sunderland, England man, Oliver Garside, will spend the next 8-years in prison after he was convicted of repeatedly raping his daughter, Sylvia Prescott since she was 25-years.

But Garside's plea in the court was so laughable: he said that he took to raping his daughter since he could not afford paying a prostitute for sex.

The Prescott who is now 47-years-old and married with 3 boys, had accused her father of serially defiling her and spoke about her ordeal to encourage other victims to come forward. She said that at the time, she could not go to the police while her grandmother was alive because she was scared that the details of the case would upset her.

However, when her grandmother died, Sylvia decided it was time to stand up to her abusive father.

After the judgement, she said that a weight has been lifted off her shoulder and wished she had gone to report the case to the police earlier.

"Prosecutors were able to build a strong case against my father and he pleaded guilty to abuse, meaning that I did not have to go through the trauma of a trial."

During sentencing, the judge reprimanded the father for the excuse he gave as to why he sexually abused his daughter.

Prescott admitted that she felt sick when she heard her father’s defense.

"What kind of defense is that? I finally feel free to live my life without him hovering over me and I should have done it sooner."
