American movie star, Angelina Jolie Pitt has revealed that she removed her ovaries and fallopian tubes due to a cancer scare. Mrs Pitt who disclosed that she is now in menopause in an opinion piece for the New York Times, said that she made the decision to go under the knife after receiving a call from her medical doctor informing her of what appeared to be a sign of early stages of cancer judging from a blood test she carried out.
Even though she was subsequently diagnosed as cancer free, Angelina went on with the surgery. Her fears stemmed from her medical examination which, according to her, revealed that “there was a small benign tumor on one ovary, but no signs of cancer in any of the tissues.” The ‘Maleficient’ star said, “I chose to keep my uterus because cancer in that location is not part of my family history. It is not possible to remove all risk, and the fact is I remain prone to cancer.
