A Journey of Courage: Ronald Mujuru Sits for Three MBA Exams Amidst Unimaginable Grief
For most people, sitting for exams requires focus and peace of mind. For Ronald Mujuru, it has required something much harder — courage.
Mujuru is still mourning the death of his wife and five children in a horror accident. Yet, last week, he found the immense strength to sit for three examinations on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday as he pursues a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
“Avoiding a Blank Page”
The weight of grief has been constant for Mujuru, especially as he continues to reflect on the tragedy that took his family’s lives. Tragically, these were the very examinations Ronald was preparing for when he let his family travel without him.
A Decision Driven by Courage
Mujuru stated that his decision to write the exams was partly driven by a need not to collapse into complete silence. “It was not easy. I just sat for the examination as a way of avoiding a blank page. Ndangodarodarowo zvangu,” he shared.
Moments of Revision
Mujuru’s days have been filled with revision amidst a constant flow of visitors. “When I am alone, I take my time to study, but for a few minutes,” he explained, noting how difficult it is to maintain focus while mourning.
The Fateful Trip
A journey to an Easter conference turned into a national tragedy along the Masvingo Road.
Mujuru lost his family on the eve of Good Friday. They were traveling to attend an Easter church conference in Mberengwa, having picked up some family members in Zvishavane along the way.
A Heartbreaking Sacrifice
Ronald had stayed behind in Harare specifically to prepare for his Master's degree examinations—a cruel twist of fate that spared his life but left him to bear the unimaginable burden of losing his entire immediate family in one fell swoop.
The Path to Healing Begins
For Mujuru, support is not just sympathy; it has become the foundation of how his healing process begins.
Employer Assistance
He expressed deep gratitude to his employers for arranging professional trauma care. “I want to commend my employers for meeting the costs of a counsellor who is taking me through some sessions and reducing my burden and trauma,” he said.
Spiritual Anchor
“The Christian community, in and outside Tynwald North, has been keeping me alive with messages of hope, living word from the Holy Bible, and it is healing my soul,” Mujuru shared. He noted that elders have been visiting to pray with him, helping him "taste the power of prayer" during his darkest hours.
Friends and Relatives
“Some friends and relatives continue to visit and check on me and it is helping me much,” he added, acknowledging that their presence steadies his mind when studying becomes too overwhelming.
