Chief Seke, ZRP, and Doves Lead World Day of Remembrance on Seke Road - A Solemn Stand for Safer Roads

A Solemn Stand for Safer Roads: Chief Seke, ZRP, and Doves Lead World Day of Remembrance on Seke Road

written By: Oudney Patsika, the Chief Editor at Sona Headlines & Marketing Officer at Sona Solar Zimbabwe

In a powerful display of community solidarity, traditional leaders, law enforcement, and corporate citizens came together on Sunday, 16 November 2025, to commemorate the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The poignant event, held along the notorious Seke Road, honored the many lives lost over the years and served as an urgent call to action for safer roads for all.

A Unified March for Remembrance

Leadership in Action

The event was marked by a solemn march led by Chief Seke and the ZRP Officer Commanding Harare Province, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru. They were joined by key partners including the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and corporate sponsors like Doves Zimbabwe, demonstrating a unified front against the scourge of road accidents.

A Place of Pain and Hope

The commemoration took place at the Manyame Bridge near St Mary's Police Station, a location of immense pain, notably where 17 lives were lost in a single tragic accident. The gathering transformed this site into a place of reflection, solidarity, and hope for a safer future.

The Global Message: Remember, Support, Act

Remembering the Lost, Supporting the Grieving

The event centered on the global themes of "Remember, Support, Act." It was a day to remember those killed and seriously injured, to acknowledge the suffering of all affected families, and to thank the emergency services for their tireless work.

A Call to Action for Safer Roads

Beyond remembrance, the day served as an urgent call to action for evidence-based interventions to prevent future road deaths and injuries. Partners like Road Safe Zimbabwe used the platform to advocate for concrete steps toward creating a safer road environment for everyone.

Author's Commentary: The Strategy of Public-Private Partnership

As a Business Growth Architect, I see this event as a powerful case study in effective Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and multi-sectoral collaboration. The partnership between Doves, a major corporate entity, and traditional and state actors like Chief Seke and the ZRP, provides a strategic blueprint for how societal problems should be tackled. This is not just a donation; it is an active, visible participation in community healing and problem-solving.

Road safety is not merely a social issue; it is a critical economic one. Every life lost on our roads is a loss of human capital—a loss of parents, breadwinners, innovators, and future leaders. By taking a stand, these organizations demonstrate an understanding that a safer community is a more prosperous one. This event is a powerful example of how strategic partnerships can turn remembrance into a catalyst for meaningful action.
