A Brief History of Glory Ministries: From One Man to a Global Movement

Glory Ministries was established as an evangelistic organization in February 2001 by Apostle Pride Sibiya. Its first church service, held as "Glory Tabernacles" on Wednesday, 27 February 2002, was attended by exactly one person—Apostle Pride Sibiya himself.

From that solitary service, the ministry has grown into a spiritual force. This is not an exhaustive narration but a concise history of the early days, recounted by Minister Vengayi Zano, who joined the vision in October 2002.
The Divine Call
Apostle Sibiya converted in 1987 at a Reinhard Bonnke crusade. However, his defining moment came in 1995 while traveling on a bus from Mutare to Harare. The voice of God spoke to him: “Sibiya unofanira kundinamata” (Sibiya, you must worship Me). This propelled him to preach in classrooms, hospitals, and buses.
On February 7, 1997, Jesus appeared to him in a vision, saying, “I want you to do what I did.” After a glimpse of hell and a divine charge—“Dawn has come, call my people”—Glory Ministries was born.
The name "Glory" comes from the Hebrew term Kabod, given to him in a prophecy: "You shall no longer be called Pride but you are Kabod."
Humble Beginnings
Glory Ministries initially opened its doors at Timber Villa (cnr Manda St & Tilcor Rd, Zengeza 3) before moving to Gogo Sibiya’s residence at 13 Choto Street, Zengeza 3.
The first Sunday service was held on March 3, 2002.
The first member was Shiloh Masenyama (now International Overseer). Other early pillars included:
- Johannes Masenyama (Overseer, Domboshava)
- Evangelist Albert Njagu (Pastor, Odzi)
- Evangelist Elrichard Denhere (Pastor, Krugersdorp, SA)
- Minister Vengayi Zano (Strategic Minister)
- Evangelist Archibolt Makumbi (District Pastor, Chakari)
- Pastor Gilbert Makore (District Pastor, Gauteng)
Growth & Expansion
In April 2004, the first major conference was held with the theme "A Thousand Times More" (Deuteronomy 1:11). Posters were black-and-white A4 papers, and instruments were ferried in a wheelbarrow!
To train ministers, a Bible School was established on August 2, 2005. Lessons were conducted at the International Overseer's lodgings. Pioneering students included Michael Zvimba (now Secretary General).
Apostle Sibiya's early teachings became legendary, available on cassette tapes. Classics included:
