The Power Of A Social Contract

Do you have anything that you have always wanted to do but are holding back.

If you are reading this article and you have had so many postponements, so many things that you have been pushing aside for the past year - then this article is for you.

I have over the year learnt that one of the ways to help yourself achieve certain plans and resolutions is to find someone to tell it to. Tell your plans to at least 5 to 10 people and then give them the room and the permission to hold you accountable for not doing what you had set out to do.

This is called a Social Contract.

A social contract is similar to a Wedding Ceremony. A Wedding Ceremony is not just a pledge to God. A Wedding Ceremony is also a pledge to your family and friends that you publicly pledge to love your spouse in sickness and in health. A Wedding is a social contract and all your friends and family who attend will hold you accountable. They gathered to witness you making this commitment and social contract and they will hold you accountable for EVERY word that you said as a commitment.
The Power Of A Social Contract
The thing is this commitment also has a way to keeping you under check. So each time you abuse your spouse and you think about leaving. The ring on your finger becomes a constant reminder of your commitment. With this in mind, you remind yourself not to breach this contract because you made a public and social commitment.

What is the Application of this Social Contact:

Why don't you write down your goals for 2019 and what you desire and intent to achieve. For example here are mine:
- I want to learn CorelDRAW.
- I want to learn Brand Strategy Designing.
- I want to learn Graphic Design.
- I want to learn Web Design.
- I want to learn Photography.
- I want to learn Cinematograpy.
- I want to learn Video Editing.
- I want to learn CorelDRAW.
- I want to learn Sony Vegas.
- I want to learn Adobe Photoshop.
- I want to learn Adobe Lightroom.
- I want to learn Blogging.
- I want to learn Anime Studio.
- I want to learn 2D and 3D Animation.
- I want to learn Blender etc.

This is my public and social contract!

The power of a social contract is that the friend you will tell about what you are desiring to do will always come back to you and then ask you about your progress. Such social contractual follow-ups are vital and they will push you to move from your comfort zone.

So as 2019 approaches - let me know what you are planning to do and I promise to hold you accountable each time we meet or speak!
