"God Told Me To Do It": Apostle Ezekiel Guti on the Divine Origins of ZAOGA's Success

In this powerful extract from "The History of Zaoga FIF," the late Apostle Professor Ezekiel Guti recounts a pivotal moment in his ministry where he faced a choice between earthly wealth and divine obedience—a decision that would lay the foundation for a global ministry and its incredible social and economic impact.

A Test of Faith

"When I was at school towards the end of the year, a certain man who had a lot of money... came to me and said, 'Work under me so that I may help you... I will also give you many buses.' As I wanted money for the work of God I said, 'God has seen me and now I have found money.'”

"After praying, God spoke to me and said, 'If you work under this man you may do so but I will not be with you, I will take my anointing from you.' I answered saying, 'Oh Lord, I want to work under you and not under this man.'”

The Divine Mandate for Prosperity

When Apostle Guti asked God for the means to get money, the Lord said, "Go and teach the people my word and teach them to give and also to work talents." When he protested that the people were poor, the Lord replied, "If you teach people my word, I am going to bless you and build many church buildings of worship." This divine instruction became the foundation for ZAOGA's principle of "working talents."

The Impact of Working Talents

Through the principle of working talents, ZAOGA members ventured into businesses, from micro-enterprises like selling nuts to SMEs. Over the years, this has had a significant impact on housing, education, social services, and employment creation in Zimbabwe and beyond.

  • Social Services: ZAOGA is the only indigenous church to build a major hospital, Mbuya Dorcas Hospital, combining medical and non-medicine wings.
  • Housing: Through talents, congregants who were once uneducated and unemployed have become homeowners.
  • Education: ZAOGA founded the first indigenous church-built university, Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU), and top-ranked schools like the Grange Primary School.

"Therefore, I say talents are of God. It is not man’s philosophy. It is also the way of God to bless the children of God in their homes because it trains people to use their hands. People who were once sufferers are raised to a standard to use their hands and sustain themselves. People who used to sit on empty tins of cooking oil... today, through working with their hands supporting the work of God, God has blessed them."

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a divine instruction given to Apostle Guti where believers are taught to give and to use their hands and skills (talents) to create businesses, no matter how small. The principle is that by supporting God's work through these efforts, God in turn blesses the individuals, their families, and the nation.

He was offered financial backing and resources by a wealthy man but was told by God that accepting this offer would mean losing God's anointing. He chose to obey God, who then gave him the "talents" principle as the means for the ministry's provision.

Major projects include the Mbuya Dorcas Hospital, the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU), numerous primary and secondary schools, dressmaking schools, and orphanages, all contributing significantly to Zimbabwe's social and economic fabric.
