Leadership is a topic that has been extensively researched, but probably less practiced. While the world has seen great leaders, it has also seen promising ones who faltered. This is a look at the key principles that define a true and lasting call to leadership.

The 7 Calls to Leadership
Leadership, according to John C. Maxwell, is influence. A leader knows the way, shows the way, and goes the way. People are influenced by a person who does what they say—a leader who acts before they speak.
God’s business is people. A leader called by God must love people, as this is the ultimate sign of their calling. When people know they are loved by their leader, they will do everything in their power to stand with them. The number one business of the church is not finances or buildings; it is people.
A good leader is someone who works very hard. Lazy people have no place in leadership. When God calls you, He calls you to the status of servant-hood, not celebrity. Good leaders know that if you work like a slave, the people around you will treat you like a King.
Accusations, rejections, gossip, and carrying the cross are part of leadership. Growing into leadership is growing into the ability to carry the cross and wear the crown of thorns. The same people who cried for the sacrificing of Jesus were the same ones whom He had healed.
A good leader is always ahead of those they lead—in giving, in praying, in tithing, and in all things. When it comes to financing projects and sustaining the work of God, the leader must carry the heaviest of all burdens.
One of the most important tasks of a leader is to groom and train other leaders. A true leader is not threatened by the growth of those they lead. Training and mentoring followers is the art of growing the vision. Jesus reproduced Himself through His leaders; Elisha was mentored by Elijah; Joshua was mentored by Moses.
The true mark of leadership is acknowledging that you are not the only leader in the city. Leadership networking is very important, and a leader will never grow if they walk alone and refuse to network.

Frequently Asked Questions
Leadership is defined as a process of social influence that maximizes the efforts of others toward achieving a common goal. It is a choice and a process, not simply a program.
It means recognizing that a call to leadership is a call to hard work and serving others, not to achieve celebrity status. The principle is: "if you work like a slave – the people around you will treat you like a King."
One of the most important tasks is to produce more leaders. A true leader is not threatened by the growth of their followers but sees their success as a sign of their own growth and the continuation of the vision.
