But at last it turns out to enslave you until you are a totally different person. You are totally changed but for the worse. Maybe your secret sins have made cutting even in your cheeks. They have given you permanent marks.
 ...and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will… 2 Timothy 2:26
Sin is gradual. It will never break out on you suddenly. Evil Jesus says it is from the heart and thus must be rooted out from there. Your mind first committed repeatedly the murder, adultery, theft, before they are committed in deed.
… For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies… Matthew 15:19

You Need To Break Bad Habits? The scripture below brings out clearly how habits can bind you and afflict you once they have a stronghold in your area of weakness. Bad Habits are difficult to break. They are like knot easy to tie but very difficult to untie when fixed. Yet, it takes the same process used to tie the knot to untie it. This also applies to your habits.
… And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, "Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him … Judges16.5
Samson allows habits to ensnare him: Samson should have realized that he was playing in deep waters. He allowed the pressure of Delilah, like any habit does, to pressurize him until he could no longer Delilah’s pressure.

… So Delilah said to Samson, "Please tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you. “And Samson said to her, "If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, then I shall become weak, and be like any other man." So the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, and she bound him with them… Judges16:6-8
Bad habits infiltrate a person slowly until they bind you inextricably. A chain smoker started with one match stick. An alcoholic started with a sip.
Then she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you,' when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies." And it came to pass, when she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death, that he told her all his heart, and said to her… Judges 6:15-17
Dealing with Bad Habits: You need to take the same procedure used in forming the bad habit to break off from it. This takes determination and discipline. Breaking off bad habit is like climbing uphill. To reach the mountain top takes efforts and patience. It demands a lot of hard work. Therefore, be prepared to make more persistent effort, over a longer time if required to get you the expected result. However with God all your side you are sure to get to the desired end painlessly.
