Church Members Demand Sex from Zimbabwean Flamboyant Prophet

"Moruti wa Tsotsi": A Holy War Erupts at a Gauteng Church

Sex, getting drunk on red wine, borrowing R600,000 and toyi-toying. These are the claims at the center of a holy war that has erupted between eight disgruntled female congregants and their pastor, Prophet Mattias Makwara, founder of Spirit Movement Ministries in Alberton, Gauteng.

Allegations of Extortion and Borrowing

The women accuse Prophet Makwara of extorting money, either by promising blessings or by borrowing from them and their relatives. "He is targeting a certain type of people that he believes are rich," said Norma Mbali. They also allege that consultations were costly, with another member stating, "A single consultation with the prophet costs R1000... Reading a scripture costs R1000 for false blessings."

Ambrith Ndlovu claims the prophet owes her family over R600,000. "It was not a donation, he promised to pay back the money," she said. She alleges he borrowed R200,000 from her brothers and flew to Mpumalanga to convince her brother-in-law to lend him R400,000 to buy a farm.

The Pastor's Defense

Prophet Makwara has rubbished the allegations, saying it was a personal vendetta because he had refused to have sex with some of the female church members. "I never killed or destroyed anybody... What wrong have I done?" he stated. "They love drinking wine and they get drunk. Some of them wanted to have sex with me. They have labelled me as a false prophet and have colluded for the same purpose."
