Cape Town - A 72-year-old man accused of raping three little girls and infecting one of them with HIV allegedly put sellotape over their mouths to keep them quiet as he raped them.
Makhinzo James Tshatsha, also known as Mdala, made a brief appearance before the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
He is accused of raping two sisters and their friend – aged four, five and eight – last year at his home in the Siqalo informal settlement in Mitchell’s Plain.
Magistrate Xoliswa Ndoyana advised him that his case had now been moved to the Wynberg Regional Court for trial.
One of the victims’ mothers described what happened to the girls.
“They said he kissed them and put his tongue in their mouths. Then he would finger them while kissing them and then he sellotaped their mouths so that they would not make a noise, and then he put in his penis,” she said.
Residents outside the court said they were shocked to learn about the allegations, because Tshatsha is a “sweet and humble” man who was also a leader in his church.
They say children loved him because he always bought them sweets and gave them joy rides.
The sisters’ mother also denied she was in a relationship with the alleged rapist, as was reported.
Resident Yandiswa Tempele, 27, said: “We want him to rot in jail because, rest assured, if he were to come out we will kill him.” Daily Voice
