Ebola Crisis Forces Jah Prayzah to Cancel Trip

Contemporary musician Mukudzei “Jah Prayzah” Mukombe, who was scheduled to attend the Africa Music Awards to be held in Nigeria on November 9, has cancelled the tour due to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa . Jah Prayzah was nominated twice in the awards for Best Male Artiste Southern Africa and for Best Collaboration. Sabastian Magacha and Cindy Munyavi who were also nominated said they are going for the award ceremony.

Jah Prayzah said he wanted to represent the country at the awards ceremony but had to cancel the tour in fear of the deadly Ebola outbreak.

“I really wanted to go but Ebola has ruined my dream of representing the country in this year’s edition of the Afrima,

“I am so delighted to have been nominated for the awards to be held in Lagos, Nigeria in November. I want to thank my fans for the support I hope and pray we will go on to win the awards,” he said.

Magacha, famed for his love for Nigerian languages and attire, said he would attend the event.

“I am looking forward to attend the awards ceremony. It is only that we still have to finalise with the organisers on whether we are going to be funded. On the Ebola issue we were assured that everything is under control and I am sure we will be safe,” said Magacha.

Cindy said plans for the trip are underway.
“I am most likely to attend the awards regardless of the Ebola outbreak but I can’t say much about it right now since my management is finalising the plans,” Cindy said.
Other Zimbabwean musicians who were nominated are Isabela Novella for Best RnB and Soul, Buffalo Soul Jah for Best African Reggae and Dancehall and Taps for Best African Electro.
This means that Zimbabwe will be well represented at the awards ceremony.

The outbreak of Ebola has affected a number of shows in Africa. Recently the Jamaican government discouraged its artistes from visiting Africa, which led Konshens and Luciano to cancel their tours of Zimbabwe. Konshens was billed to perform at the Lion Larger Summer Beer Festival last week while Luciano was set to perform in the country on November 1. Herald
