MDC youths ditch Ncube for Zapu

THE professor Welshman Ncube led MDC has suffered yet another major morale sapping blow following the defection of eight members of the party’s Bulawayo provincial youth executive to Zapu on Saturday.

The provincial youth executive members who include organising secretary, Mandate Moyo, deputy secretary, Ndodana Moyo and Iphithule Maphosa were unveiled at a brief welcome ceremony held at the new Zapu offices in the city on Saturday afternoon.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, Zapu spokesperson, Patrick Ndlovu confirmed that the eight had crossed the floor.
The provincial youth executive members who include organising secretary, Mandate Moyo, deputy secretary, Ndodana Moyo and Iphithule Maphosa were unveiled at a brief welcome ceremony held at the new Zapu offices in the city on Saturday afternoon.
“We received eight former MDC youth members in our party yesterday. The youths told us that they were disappointed that the party in principle preaches democracy and devolution of power and yet those ideals remain a pipe dream in the party,” he said.

Ndlovu said his party was excited to welcome the youths into the Zapu family.

“A lot of people have been saying Zapu is a party for old people.

These people have been proved wrong today because we have seen young people with new ideas joining our party,” he said.

The defection comes barely a day after the resignation of the party’s national spokesperson, Nhlanhla Dube.

Last month, the party’s secretary-general Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga resigned as chaos continues to widen in the party ahead of a planned merger with the MDC Renewal Team led by Sekai Holland.

The party’s vice chairman Frank Chamunorwa has also resigned from the position.
