The 8 Steps to Manhood

How does a male reach manhood? That age-old question has been widely misunderstood by the masses.

For starters, there are certain groups and organizations that have cleverly subverted and maligned manhood. Although what they promote clearly undermines true manhood, they firmly believe they know what being a man is all about.

Next, there are men who were never taught about manhood. The men from this group simply do not understand manhood, but they act as if they do! In this timely and desperately needed teaching, I’ll show you the eight essential steps every man must take to reach manhood…

God’s Ultimate Diagram For Manhood

Most men are unaware that God, in His infinite wisdom, mapped out for us a concise diagram for reaching manhood. A diagram is a plan, sketch, drawing or outline designed to explain, show or demonstrate how something works.

How does manhood work?
God’s diagram, which I call God’s ultimate diagram for manhood, reveals eight essential steps every man must take to reach manhood. To be blunt, unless a man takes each of these eight steps, he will be unable to properly fulfill his role as a man!

However, when a man learns and follows God’s ultimate diagram for manhood, his life won’t be unfulfilled, unstable or blurry. He won’t be characterized by failed relationships, marriages, businesses or dashed dreams. Have you been wondering, “What is manhood,” and “Have I arrived?” The answers to those questions are right before you. Follow me step-by-step! Your journey into true manhood begins now…

Step #1 (You Are Created In His Image)
In Genesis 1:26, these words are recorded, “And God said, Let us make man in our image…” To be created in God’s image means that God created you to conform to His moral character. You were created to have the same DNA, attributes, traits and disposition as God. In Leviticus 11:44-45, the Lord God commanded us, “Be Holy, for I am Holy!” I repeat, that is not a suggestion, that is a command! The first and most critical step to true manhood is conforming yourself to God’s moral character. Males who don’t take this first step, ultimately always fail at manhood. How do you learn God’s moral character? The only way is through the study of God’s Word. Any other source will corrupt, subvert or malign your character.

Step #2 (You Are Created In His Likeness)
In Genesis 1:26, these words are recorded, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…” Have you ever heard the cliché, “Like father, like son?” To be created in God’s likeness means you were created to act just like God! How does God act? He lives and operates by faith. In Hebrews 10:38, we were given this command, “Now the just shall live by faith…” It is an irrefutable fact - men who do not live by faith, subject themselves to the possibility of cracking when they face certain types of tests, trials and temptations. Men who walk by faith, never crack under pressure! How do you learn how to walk by faith? Through studying the Word of God on the subject of faith and by being in the right type of church where the pastor teaches faith.

Step #3 (You Are Created and Called To Fellowship With Him)
In Genesis 1:28, these words are recorded, “And God blessed them, and God said unto them…” That is the first account we have of God fellowshipping with man. In Genesis 2:16, these words are recorded, “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying…” That was the next account we have of God communing with man. In Exodus 33:11, the Lord spoke to Moses, face-to-face, and that is how the Lord desires to fellowship with you, from His mouth to your heart and from your mouth to His heart. It is vitally important that you understand this next point – men who do not take the step of fellowshipping with the Lord through prayer, have set themselves to have a blurred vision of manhood.

Step #4 (You Are Created and Called To Be The Foundation)

The first thing you must understand about building is this - before a builder can add the floor, walls, ceilings and roof, he must first dig and then set the foundation. When God created us, He had to dig into the ground and first set the foundation for mankind. That historical moment in time was recorded in Genesis 2:7, “And the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” God dug the male man from the dust of the ground and made him to be the foundation and corner stone of mankind. As men, we were created to be the foundation and stabilizing force of society. That is not a privilege, it is a major responsibility.

The next thing you need to understand about a building is this - when the windows are broken, the walls have holes, or the roof is leaking, those things can be repaired or replaced. But when the foundation is cracked or suffers structural damage, the building must be condemned. When Adam sinned against God, he suffered structural damage to all men and condemned all of mankind. God’s response? He installed a new foundation, the Rock - Jesus the Christ, our new chief corner stone. Without Christ in his heart, a man’s foundation is built upon unstable soil, but once a man is in Christ through the new birth, his foundation becomes immovable! That man won’t crack under pressure and he won’t succumb to the tests, trials or temptations of life. That man will be a picture of dependability, integrity, chivalry, strength and faithfulness.

Step #5 (You Are Created To Know Your God-Given Purpose)
In Genesis 2:15, these words are recorded, “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” God gave the man a specific purpose… to dress and keep the Garden of Eden. Every man comes with a God-given purpose. In II Timothy 3:10, Paul displayed that he understood this critical fifth step to manhood. He put it like this, “But thou hast fully known my… purpose…” Paul was so clear on his God-given purpose, that all of the other men around him knew what he was called to do. When you know your purpose for living, others will get behind you and support you. Sadly, to their own detriment, most men do not know their God-given purpose. They go through life, searching for their reason for existence, but never finding it. When a man communes with the Holy Spirit, the Lord will always reveal to him, his God-given purpose. At that point, your life will become fulfilling!
The 8 Steps to Manhood
Step #6 (You Are Created and Called To Be a Cultivator)
In Genesis 2:15, these words are recorded, “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it…” That word “dress,” means to cultivate. To cultivate means: 1). To improve the condition of. 2). To make better. 3). To cause to multiply. 4). To cause to be fruitful. 5). To promote the growth of. 6). To nourish. You are called by God to be a cultivator. Everything that you set your hands to, or get involved with, should improve and become better! That means cultivating your wife and family, (See Psalms 128:3 and Ephesians 5:23). Cultivating your children, (See Ephesians 6:4), and everything else that follows, (See Colossians 3:17). That means your community, church, and the company you work for will all improve because of your presence. God has called every man be a cultivator!

Step #7 (You Are Created And Called To Be a Protector)
In Genesis 2:15, these words are recorded, “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” That word “keep,” means to protect. To protect means: 1. To keep from being damaged, attacked, stolen, or injured. 2. To shield from danger, injury, destruction, or damage. 3. To guard, to defend and to be a watchman. God has called men to be protectors.

We are called to protect the women and children, (See I Samuel 30:1-19). Protect our country and community, (See I Timothy 2:1-3). Protect and provide for the poor, (See Job 29:12-17). Protect, help and nurture the fatherless, (See Psalm 10:14). Protect and provide for the widows, (See Deuteronomy 26:12). Protect the Church by contending for the faith, (See Jude 3). When you see, hear and read about men committing acts of violence and mayhem against society, it is a forgone conclusion. They either missed or rejected this essential seventh step to manhood. God has created and called all men to be protectors!

Step #8 (You Are Uniquely Gifted By God)
In Genesis 2:19-20, these words are recorded… And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every foul of the air; and brought themunto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that wasthe name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the fiel.

Did you comprehend what you just read? Read it again! God gave Adam the responsibility of naming every living creature. The names he gave still stand to this very day. There is no question that Adam was uniquely gifted, but he is not alone! God also uniquely gifted you! The Lord installed unique gifts within every human being. Those gifts are tied to that person’s God-given purpose. Proverbs 18:16, says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” God designed the system for you to fully know your purpose and gifts, and then use the gifts he has installed in you to fulfill His purpose for your life.

In Jeremiah 1:5, the Lord put it to Jeremiah like this, “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” The Lord went on to say in verse 9 of that same chapter, “…Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.” Jeremiah was born a gifted prophet. The Lord installed all of the giftings Jeremiah would need to fulfill His God-given purpose. What are your gifts? What are you called to be? What are you called to do? Those are critical questions that every man must know the answers to! The answers are… you must go to your creator, the Lord God Almighty and ask Him.

Any other source is, at best, rolling the dice with your life. How could they know what you are capable of? They did not design you. They did not breath into you the breath of life. They are not the ones who installed the gifts, talents and abilities in you and they are not the ones who wired your heart or calibrated your conscience. The Lord God is your only source for that critical information!

Once you fully know your God-given purpose and fully understand the gifts, abilities and talents the Lord God has installed in you, get busy! Get busy about bringing His vision for your life to pass! Make fulfilling His vision for your life become your primary mission. These are the eight steps to manhood. I admonish you to take each step and demonstrate to the world, to the Church, and to other men, how a true man looks and acts! I also urge you to pass this powerful message on to other men, both young and old, so that they man know the 8 steps to manhood!
