1. Examine Yourself: It is important to start training your passions, curbing your appetites, and bringing your whole moral nature under complete control of the Holy Spirit. Take the time to develop the thoughtfulness for good values, integrity, moderation and hard work. These will form the solid foundation required for a prosperous and peaceful life.

2. Avoid Every Kind of Evil: Do not allow or entertain any form of evil habits, like Samson did, even for a moment. Since you know now your habits will always make permanent what you want just for a moment. You may desire a sip of beer to feel that it is acceptable for the moment; the truth is that the little glass is enough to turn you to an alcoholic. A stick of cigarette is capable of turning you into a chronic cigarette smoker.

3. Test everything: The path to breaking the habit is similar to the one you used in forming the habit. You were once tempted, and yielded, just like Samson. In breaking the habit you would need to lose yourself from the grip of the habit by refusing the habit and its promptings.

4. Ask yourself why? Habit is automatic acts. You will get yourself out of the operation of the automatic law of habit as you simply ask yourself, why should I carry out the same action? Or better still; why not labor now to breaking the habit? Every time you feel like acting in the old way, ask yourself why? Take time to think before you act. Make this your new habit until you conquer the old habit.

5. Suffer no exception: The best support to breaking the habit is to let all your friends, family and associates know. Don’t allow any exception or permit any special occasion take you back to acting the old way.

6. Overcome Evil with Good: The best way to breaking the habit is to form a desirable habit directly opposed to the one you want to break off from. If you manifest the habit of poverty, failure and laziness and other vices, your way out is to work out your salvation. Start forming the habit of wealth, success, and hard work. That way you will oppose evil with good. You reap what you have sown. If you have sown so far a seed of poverty, failure, laziness, and evil, you are surely reaping what you planted. You always get a crop for your harvest similar to the kind of seed planted.

Here is what the Bible says: It is much harder to undo than to form habits. Therefore the best way to overcome bad habit is to form a new one that would replace and displace the bad one.
… Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil… Jeremiah 13:23
You can easily overcome evil with good: You cannot easily overcome evil habit by fighting against it. You would resist evil in a better way when you oppose it with good. You may be pursued and overtaken by the habit of negative or evil thinking. The first approach is for you to try driving out this thought out of your mind. But this is an almost impossible thing because the mind you have to deal with is not directly under your control. It is your habit mind – the subconscious mind.

It is easier for you to repeat what you have done for five, ten or twenty years. If you want to get rid of the habit of telling lie, the best way out is to form the habit of telling the truth. You want to conquer your habit of laziness. Get up early and decide to work hard until hard work
