Alick Macheso’s empire crumbles

The empire that Sungura ace Alick Macheso built might be crumbling following revelations in court that he has hit hard times financially, while his daughter Sharon has filed to nullify her wedding of two months to Kudakwashe Munetsi.

In his latest court application, Macheso is seeking the downward variation of the maintenance fees for his two children sired with his ex-wife Fortunate Mapako.

In the court application dated 31st October 2014 and filed by his lawyer Norman Mugiya in the Harare magistrates court, Macheso says he can no longer afford paying the US$750 he has been paying since the 31st of May this year for his two minor children.

Among the reasons given to the court, Macheso says his financial position has deteriorated due to the unfavourable economic climate affecting the general populace, and that he also has four other children and an extended family under his care. Macheso claims the music industry has also been affected to the extent that his band is no longer having many musical shows while the few shows he holds have poor attendances.

He adds that international music shows which used to provide substantial amounts of revenue for the upkeep of the band and his extended family are no longer as lucrative.

Macheso also claims his ambassadorial role does not provide much income as he was settled with a once off payment when he accepted the role.

He alleges that he has also learnt that his ex-wife Fortunate Mapako, popularly known as Tafadzwa, is realising US$1200 per month and living a lavish lifestyle, hence she should also take part in the upkeep of their children.

Meanwhile, Macheso’s eldest daughter Sharon has filed for divorce against her husband of two months, Kudakwashe Munetsi, citing irreconcilable differences.

In summons served to Munetsi, Sharon says since their marriage on the 6th of August 2014, their relationship has irretrievably broken down and there are no prospects for the restoration of a normal marriage.

She accuses Munetsi of repeatedly assaulting her, committing adultery and not consummating the relationship leading to her losing all love for Munetsi.

She claims to be pregnant with Munesti’s child and the child may be born into a dysfunctional family, hence she begs the court to make Munetsi to pay US$400 maintenance fees until her death or until she remarries.

She also contends that they have not yet jointly acquired property and begs the court to allow each party to retain it’s own personal property while bearing own costs of the suit.
