Man rapes, impregnates brother’s daughter

A 31-YEAR-OLD Harare man allegedly raped his brother’s daughter on several occasions until she fell pregnant.
The 19-year-old girl concealed the offence until her bulging tummy sold her out.
The man yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima facing rape charges.
He was remanded in custody to October 7 this year.

Mr Serima advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa told the court that the man was given custody of the teen by his elder brother.

It is alleged that in November last year the man proposed love to the teenager who turned him down pointing out that it was taboo for a father to propose love to his daughter.

During the same month, the man asked the girl to accompany him into town and she agreed.
The man drove into town and later parked his car at a secluded place before raping the teenager.

He threatened her not to reveal the matter.
Sometime in March this year, it is alleged that the man took advantage of his wife’s absence and raped the girl again before sending her off to work as a housemaid in Rugare.

The man continued to sexually assault the girl during her off-days on weekends until she fell pregnant.
The matter came to light when the girl’s employer noticed a bulging stomach and strange behaviour.

After being quizzed she revealed that she was raped, leading to the arrest of the man.
In another isolated case, a man appeared in court for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter four years ago.

It is alleged that in 2010 the girl was left by her mother in the custody of the stepfather.
The man prepared a sleeping place for his stepdaughter in the main bedroom before raping her at night.

The man, who appeared before the same magistrate, was remanded in custody to October 7.
